A message from Fleet Captain, Charlie Evans . . . . .

Gordon’s Goblets:  This event has been missing from our fixture list for a couple of years but fear not I have pencilled in  Sunday 23rd June   as a potential date for the competition. More details shortly but in the mean time I should be grateful to hear from anyone who could help out as an ARO and/or possibly safety boat crew on the 23rd. If we have fifteen 15 s in close combat, a third pair of eyes in the starting box always helps. Traditionally there has been an informal picnic after the racing which has been a good time for a natter, something that is very often missing on a normal Sunday lunchtime when most of us just pack up and speed off home. So please find time to bring some food, and stay on, especially as Jo has promised copious amounts of wine to help the event along.

Summer (?)   is here. No, I am not talking about the current climatic shenanigans which last Saturday saw the Heron open meeting subjected to four seasons in the space of a couple of hours, but the start of the BSA Early Summer series which began the previous week on 5th  May. Just four boats braved the chilly wind which fluctuated between NE and NW and varied from 15 knot gusts to absolutely zilch. Yesterday conditions were “almost” summer like and with eight boats afloat and in close competition it looks like we can be assured of a well-attended and competitive summer series.

The conclusion of the  Spring Series  on 28th  April saw John and Mark as worthy overall winners. It could be you this summer!

And finally……Congratulations   to Simon and Al Cooper who journeyed to Datchet for the Southern Area Championships in April. There were quite a few legends of Flying 15 sailing taking part so although their place may look a little lowly on paper I think Father and Son can consider it a good result. Thank you for keeping the BSA name alive and well among a strong fleet of fifteens and good luck with the rest of your travelling summer.

Happy summer sailing,

Charlie
