Push the Boat Out – 19th May
The weather forecast is perfect for our open day this Saturday, and BSA helms are looking forward to taking visitors out for a taster sail. If you know anyone who would like to have a go at sailing, please invite them to come along between 10:00 and 16:00.
Wednesday Evening and Saturday Sailing Sessions
Why not bring the family for a sail between 6th June and 25th August 2018, when our patrol boat is on the water? Session times are:
- Wednesday evenings from 18:00 to 21:00 or half an hour before sunset
- Saturday afternoons from 12:00 to 16:00
Our patrol boat helms and crews will carry VHF radios and act as eyes-on-the-water. They may provide assistance so, if you'd like to take advantage of this support, you just need to stay within sight of the orange commando.
Racing
The Early Summer series is in full swing and everyone is invited to take part in Sunday racing, even if you’ve never raced before. The first start is at 10:40, and we sail three races back-to-back. We are now using HalSail results software, and you can view the weekly results by clicking here and choosing from the dropdown menus at the top of the page.
2000 Class Open Meeting – 7th July
We hope that 2000 dinghy sailors from Bewl will join visitors from Weir Wood, Bough Beech and other sailing clubs. The briefing will be at 10:15 on the day, outside the Pop-Up Café, with the first race starting at around 11:00. There will be five to seven races with prizes for the winners. Why not come down for a coffee and chat, even if you can’t sail?
Youth Sailing
We’ve heard from young people who would like to sail with similar sailors during our patrol boat sessions. If you’d like to make contact with other youth sailors, please email us in the first instance.
Optimists
What a fantastic result for the Bewl Sailors at the Optimist Selections in Weymouth! Freddie was 5th, making the Worlds team, and Jamie at 6th took the first Europeans slot. Read all about it here .
Fun at Bewl Week – 28th July to 4th August
The successor to Family Week is now in its third year. Camp, sail, BBQ, socialise and enjoy this fun week at Bewl organised by the Midweekers. There will be safety boat cover, and families are welcome. £9 per night for members of Bewl Water, plus a one-off payment of £5. Contact Mo Clayton here for more information. And don’t forget the BSA Mid-summer regatta on 5th August.
British Keelboat League – 18/19th August
BSA has entered a team to race a J70 in Cowes for this exciting competition. We’d love to get a second boat and need a team of four. Please let me know if you are interested on 07766 994728 or by email . More information on the RYA website .
Heron Open Meeting – 12th May
This was very successful despite the light flukey winds, with visitors coming from as far afield as Hull. Matt Pickett from Up River Yacht Club in Essex was the overall winner. Click on the link to the Yachts and Yachting website here to read all about it.
Bewl Water kindly lent us their water taxi to use as a committee boat, and members of BSA worked hard to install an anchor and winch, autohoot and flag mast before the event.

Rob Barden, a friendly and helpful Bewl Water ranger, retired on 20th April after 20 years at Bewl. He was very touched to receive a gift from the regular sailors. We wish him all the best in his retirement.
#TowSafe4Freddie this Spring
Three-year-old Freddie Hussey was killed by a runaway trailer in 2014. A BSA member, Jim Wood, says he has seen many dangerous boat trailers over the years and urges you to follow the Department of Transport guidelines here .
If you’d like to chat to someone about any of these activities, please call 07951 258816 or 07766 994728 or send us an email .
Looking forward to seeing you at Bewl Water soon.
